About

Greetings Austinites and fellow Austin lovers, and welcome to the revamped AustinFoodReview.com website!

As a long-time resident of the Austin area (long-time meaning I’ve lived here since the 3rd grade, circa 1977), I have a lot of Austin area eatery experience, along with decent taste-buds, and a long list of ‘go to’ restaurants when folks are wondering where they should go ‘for something good’ or ‘for something new’.

First of all, I want it to be clear that I am not a restaurant professional, nor associated with the food industry in any form other than customer (I won’t deny that I’ve desired to own my own place/franchise, but that’s another story).

Second, I also want you to know that I am opinionated (just ask my wife). But it’s a nice and reasoned opinion, with plenty of room for others to disagree.

Concerning my interactions with the places I eat; I have pretty high expectations on what I expect from restaurants. I have a three year old son, so “Family Friendly” is important to me, as well as “Expecting/New Mother Friendly” (since our son is just over three years old, my wife and I have learned a lot about what expecting and new mothers need). Other things to expect me to opine about: Wait Staff Service/Attitude; Food Quality; Austin Weird (0-10 scale). I’ll also try to provide a brief description and summary of the particular experience when the review occurs as well as trying to pay attention to things such as connectivity since we are in technophile Austin, or other items interest (nice view, cool gardens, live bands, etc.).

To be clear– I am not an East Coast type with that stereo-typical attitude and opinion (and my strong Texas accent would probably make ‘em all laugh with derision anyway!). I do expect good service commensurate with the prices on the menu, and the food should be good regardless of the cost (of course, the higher the cost, the better the food must be). Atmosphere is important as well; I like hole-in-the wall places like Mama Jacks in Pflugerville, or Ken’s Tacos in NE Austin just as much as yuppier places like ZAX near Lake Austin and Shoreline Grill downtown. If I’m disappointed with a place, I’m disappointed, that’s all. I like giving places second chances as well. With that said, you guys can make your own opinion and know how my review might stand next to yours. Let me know if this is helpful by sending me an email, which I’ll post to the comments section of the site (when I create it).
